The XS890 is our most popular high quality USB to RS485 / RS422 converter. It is designed around the high quality FT232RL processor from FTDI Semiconductors which in combination with a perfectly designed circuitry and a SP485E serial driver chip from Exar Corporation results in a converter which is compatible with most serial devices and operating systems and has a low error rate.
The drivers for this converter are updated frequently and works with most versions of Windows, Linux and Mac.
After installing the included drivers and connecting the converter to your computer's USB port, a virtual COM port will show up your operating system's Device Manager where you can manage and configure it almost as if it was a real built-in serial COM port.
All COM port settings, such as baud rate and data bits, are automatically adjusted to the serial device you connect to this converter to, however several COM port settings can also be adjusted manually. COM port number can also be manually selected.
This USB to RS485 / RS422 is powered from the computer's USB port so no additional external power supply is required. The RS485 / RS422 interface is a standard 9-pin D-sub connector with an optional screw terminal board included for easy connection of cables or single wires.
Built-in fail-safe bias resistors ensures reliable performance under even the most demanding situations. LED lights for Power, TX and RX indicates when the converter has power and when data is sent or received, which is nice to have when troubleshooting applications.
The converter will work with most applications and environments such as laboratory equipment, office devices, alarm systems, terminals and process machinery. It is however not recommended for heavy duty industrial applications; for this we recommend one of our optically isolated converter.
