What we have here is a light-industrial grade serial RS232 RF radio modem which will allow you to send and receive wireless serial data between two serial devices or computers.
The advantage of a serial RF radio such as this is that it can be used without an operating system as a host. An operating system is only required to configure the parameters of the radio.
The parameters can be configured through the serial port of the radio by using the downloadable configuration utility. If your computer does not have an available COM port we strongly recommend using a high quality USB to serial adapter such as our part XS8801 for configuring the parameters.
This radio works in the unlicensed 915Mhz frequency band so no radio license is required.
It is ideal for most types of wireless serial communication of manufacturing machinery, CNC's, PLC's, printers, bar-code scanners or even home automation control.
With the included configuration software each RS232 serial wireless radio can be configured with custom data settings which includes baud rates, parity bit and channel frequency.
Each radio has 8 channels so multiple radio pairs can operate at the same location without interference. It is ideal for point-to-point communication which makes setting up a communication link fast and easy; however point-to-multi-point configurations can also be setup without problems.
Each package contains one RS232 serial wireless radio which works as a transceiver, meaning it can both transmit and receive data, however not simultaneously (half-duplex only). You will need two radios to setup a communication link. Also included is a male / female serial cable and a USB/DC adapter cable to power the radio from a USB port.
This radio can be powered through the included USB cable or an external standard wall plug 110VAC/5VDC adapter, which is sold separately.
