This is a desktop style USB to 4-ports RS232 converter built around the high performance FT232BL chipset from FTDI Semiconductors. Once the drivers are installed it will give you four individual COM ports in your computer's Device Manager which can be used almost as if they were regular built-in COM ports.
The COM ports can be used individually one by one or all at the same time.
The advantage of the FT232BL chipset is that not only does it offer high performance and reliability but it also offers multiple port settings which can be manually adjusted to match your particular serial device if the automatically adjusted settings does not work with your application.
Another advantage of the
FT232BL chipset is that the drivers are updated frequently which means that this converter is fully compatible with the newest operating systems and also most older systems.
All four ports on this converter are protected against static electricity and most high voltage surges for up to 15KV, which protects your serial device and the converter itself from being damaged in case og high voltages.
This converter is powered by the USB port but can optionally be powered by an external 5VDC supply. An external power supply is usually only required if you connect serial devices which draw a high current or if you connect this converter via a USB hub.
The enclosure is made of aluminum with hard plastic ends and indication LED lights indicate when data is being sent and received on any of the four ports.
