What we have here is a fully optical isolated industrial strength USB to RS485 / RS422 converter which is ideal for most industrial and commercial applications and environments. The converter is powered through the USB port so no additional power source is required.
Industrial Grade Features
- Optical isolation is achieved with high speed 6N137 isolation opto-couplers from Fairchild Semiconductors which offers protection for up to 700V continuous voltage and 3500V spike.
- Each serial communication port has electrostatic protection for up to 400W surge and 15KV static electricity.
- Built-in standard 35mm DIN rail mounts makes it easy to install this converter into any enclosure or cabinet with a DIN rail. Alternatively the converter can be screw mounted.
- Built-in 120 ohm terminal resistor which can be enabled or disabled by a slide switch on top of the converter.
Solid Performance
This converter is designed around the high quality FT232BL processor chip from FTDI Semiconductors which ensures high performance and reliability.
It is a great choice for industrial and commercial applications for general use at point-to-point or RS485 multi-point networks. Up to 32 nodes are supported in true multi-drop networks.
The converter has one RS485 port and one RS422 port. Only one port can be used at a time. Which port is in use (RS485 or RS422) is determined by the slide switch on top of the converter.
Multiple converters can be connected to the same computer without problems.
Each converter will then create one virtual COM port which will show up in your computer's Device Manager after the drivers has been installed. Drivers updated frequently and are fully WHQL compliant and works with all versions of Windows, Linux and Mac.
