If you need to connect a serial device wireless to a computer over a long distance then this serial RF radio is ideal. This type of radio communicates the serial data over radio frequencies which signal is much stronger than Bluetooth and WiFi, so the overall communication distance for this particular radio is up to 500 metre (1600 feet).

Simple to Setup and Use

These radios works as a transceiver which means that they can act either as a transmitter or a receiver; this is automatically managed by the radios, so there are no parameters or switches required to set this feature. Notice: the radios can transmit and receive however not at the same time, only one or the other, which is called half-duplex communication.
To link a remote radio connected to your serial device with a local radio connected to your computer, all you need to do is open the COM port the radio is connected to and start sending data. No pairing or linking is required, the radios simply transmit and receive whatever is sent or received on the frequency and channel they are configured to use.

Configuring the Radios

To configure the parameters is very easy too; it is done through the serial interface by using the downloadable configuration software, so you will need a computer with a serial port or a USB to serial converter to configure the parameters.
Configurable parameters are: baud rate, parity and channel number. No handshake signals are available for these radios, they only support TX and RX.

Communication Methods

These serial radios can be setup to communicate in pairs, also called point-to-point communication, or as point-to-multipoint communication where one 'master' radio sends data to multiple 'slave' radios. Notice that when using point-to-multipoint communication all 'slaves' will receive same data from the 'master' radio unless the slaves are using a different channel. In this type of setup the 'master' radio will also be able to receive data from all 'slaves' which might cause data collision if all 'slaves' send data at the same time, so for these reasons it is important consider all aspects of the setup before deciding which type of setup is right for your particular project. Please see these setup examples for ideas for how to setup these radios.

Multiple Use

These serial radios are ideal for serial RS232 wireless communication with CNC machines, building control, alarm and security devices, scales, serial printers, manufacturing machinery and most other equipment which has a standard serial RS232 port.

Each package contains one serial wireless RS232 RF radio so you will need two radios to setup a communication link.

The radios can be powered by the included USB cable or an external standard wall plug 110VAC/5VDC adapter (not included).

The parameters of these radios must be configured through the RS232 interface. If your computer does not have a serial COM port, we highly recommend using a reliable quality USB to RS232 serial converter such as our USB to RS232 adapter which is fully compatible with these radios.
