If you need a converter for industrial environments then we highly recommend using an optically isolated converter which is specifically rated for industrial environments. The MWE820B is a fully optically isolated USB to RS232 / RS485 / RS422 converter with an isolation rating of up to 700V continuous voltage and 3500V spike voltages which will protect your equipment and the converter itself from most types of surges, ground loops and other types of electrical noise commonly seen in industrial environments.
Isolation is achieved by high speed 6N137 isolation optocouplers from Fairchild Semiconductors. The high performance chipset CP2102 from Silicon Labs ensures reliable and solid performance for many years.

This converter can be mounted on a standard DIN rail, one by one or it can be stacked on top of each other to save space; alternatively it can be mounted by screws. It it powered by the USB port so no external power supply is required.

This converter will not create 3 individual virtual COM ports in your computer's Device Manager, it will instead create only 1 virtual COM port which can be used simultaneous for RS232, RS485 and RS422 communication; all 3 physical ports on the converter can be used at the same time for simultaneous data transfers. This means that data is present on the 3 physical ports at the same time; one port for RS232, one port for RS485 and one port for RS422, this way you can actually convert USB data to RS232, RS485 and RS422 at the same time.

After installing the included drivers one (1) virtual COM port automatically shows up in your computer's Device Manager which can be used as if it was a standard built-in COM port.
