Bluetooth Serial Adapter modules are often underestimated when it comes to serial RS232 connectivity, fact is that serial connectivity by a Bluetooth serial adapter actually gives you the most economical, most efficient, secure and reliable wireless serial connection within the 300 feet range.
A Bluetooth serial adapter gives you a very convenient and easy way to wirelessly communicate with your serial devices, regardless if they are new or old, and with the new Bluetooth serial 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 protocols you get 128bit encryption for highly secure communications.
This Bluetooth serial adapter is a good all-round unit for general wireless RS232 communication with serial printers, building control, scales, office equipment, alarm and security devices, telescopes (tested with ASCOM, and SkySafari software), CNC's and other manufacturing machinery.
It can be powered by the included USB cable, a USB Mini power adapter, pin 9 at the DB9 connector or by an external battery.
You can communicate with this Bluetooth serial adapter via standard built-in Bluetooth or by using an external USB Bluetooth dongle. The advantage of using one of these methods is that you will need only one Bluetooth serial adapter to setup a communication link.
If you want a direct cable replacement which automatically connects your devices wirelessly without the need for a computer then you can also use this adapter in pairs, (see illustrations below).
For easy configuration of the parameters of this serial Bluetooth adapter we recommend using our USB to serial adapter cable part XS880, unless you have a serial COM port available in your computer.
The parameters can however also be configured over Bluetooth if you have built-in Bluetooth or if you are using a USB Bluetooth dongle.
Each package contains one Bluetooth serial adapter which works as a full duplex transceiver, meaning it can both transmit and receive data. You will need two of these Bluetooth serial adapters to setup a communication link unless you already have a built-in or external Bluetooth dongle. Take a look at our detailed setup examples to see how this adapter can be setup.
